![]() I have been truly astonished at the weight loss – it was like magic, but the other effects were even more amazing – I feel so bright eyed and bushy tailed and I am sleeping so well – that sleep where you fall asleep and the next thing you know it’s morning – that’s so not normal for me! But yeah, you definitely need a juicer if you are going to do the diet properly. ![]() Thanks Mandy, I would definitely recommend this diet to anyone who wants to shift some weight quickly or just feel and be a lot healthier. I was intrigued to see if I could benefit from any of the other claims… and the answer is also yes! I definitely feel healthier, I’ve been sleeping better, I feel more positive and energetic, more alert (and no it’s not because of the coffee – I’ve drunk no more coffee than normal and most days less) and bizarrely I’ve also felt less hungry than normal! I have also been drinking more water and I realise now that often when I feel hungry I’m probably actually thirsty…or just bored! Unfortunately I don’t have fancy scales that tell me such things so, I can’t comment on that, but in the book they say typically participants put on a little weight in muscle, as well as losing weight in fat, so it is entirely possible that I have put on muscle and lost even more fat.īut for me the diet was so much more than about losing weight. The special thing about this diet is that it is supposed to help you gain muscle as well as lose weight. I lost 6lb! In fact I lost 5lb in the first 3 days!! And given how much I was drinking, I’m not sure it is possible that that was from fluid loss. I just did without, or sometimes substituted with parsley.Īh – the million dollar question! And the answer is…yes. Goodness knows where you can get this from. If you don’t fancy the trek, I’d get the wheat and buckwheat ones or just sub in normal noodles. Easily the best green tea I have tried, with no bitter aftertaste.īuckwheat Noodles – I couldn’t find 100% buckwheat ones in Tesco, but found them in Waitrose and the health food shop. It cost £12 and the tub is tiny!! It’s for the green juice and to be honest, if I was doing the diet again, I probably wouldn’t bother, but instead drink plenty of Pukka Herbs Supreme Matcha Green tea, which I found in Tesco and has a small amount of matcha in it and tastes wonderful. Matcha Green Tea – This I could only find on Amazon – I bought this one*. If you can’t get hold of them, porridge oats would probably do as a substitute. The things I found hard to obtain were:Ĭoconut Flakes – I found these in my local health food shop, but you could sub in desiccated coconut.īuckwheat Pasta – Again my local health food shop came up trumps, but you could use brown rice pasta or just wholemeal pasta if you didn’t want to make the trek.īuckwheat Flakes/Puffs – I found these on Amazon but they cost a fortune! I eventually found the flakes in Waitrose and decided just to get these and swap the puffs for flakes in the recipe. However there are a few things which a bit tricky to get hold of. Most of the ingredients are really easy to buy in a normal supermarket: things like kale, celery, parsley, chillies, even buckwheat (groats) I found in my local Tesco. (Quick check of the book reveals it’s a chef called Mark McCulloch… so he probably does have a whole army of underlings to wash up for him!) Basically I think whoever writes the Sirtfood recipes must have someone who does his washing up for him. But that is waaay more than I would usually use – I am a 1 pot kind of a girl, sometimes 2 but NEVER 5, unless it’s like Christmas or something and even then…have you seen my Christmas Turkey Traybake Recipe?). And the salsa…I could have eaten a whole bucket of that – sooooo good! My only complaint would be that it used every single pot and pan in the house (OK I exaggerate. Wednesday’s dinner was another triumph: Aromatic Chicken with Kale, Buckwheat and Salsa. Definitely one to have again and much nicer than the juice!! The salad was massive – I couldn’t finish it all and tasted lovely. Both walnuts and extra virgin olive oil are Sirtfoods, so I didn’t feel too naughty adding them…and yes it did make a lovely salad (recipe below, if you fancy it). I massaged it into the kale and then added the rocket, parsley, celery and apple, plus a few walnuts. I made a dressing out of the lemon juice and ginger and a tiny bit of extra virgin olive oil. However a thought had been niggling in my brain since the start of the diet…the Sirtfood green juice ingredients all sounded like rather fab ingredients for a salad…would it work? Well I figured it was worth a shot! So instead of juice 2, I used the ingredients to make a simple salad.
